Women's basketball ends 2019 with tough loss to Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The speed and size of Davenport proved to be too much for Cornerstone to handle, as they fell 97-47. 29 turnovers significantly hindered the Golden Eagles, putting them in too many difficult situations. With the loss, CU falls to 2-14 on the year and remain at 1-6 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will now have an extended break, with their next game coming in the new year. The Golden Eagles will travel to Rochester Hills to take on Rochester University on January 4th. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com
 
Game Flow
  • Cornerstone grabbed the first bucket of the game off a three from Rebekah Crosby. From there, Davenport would take control of the game. Their relentless pressure and fast-paced offense built them a 23-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • CU would put together a couple solid surges in the second, but Davenport continued to pour it on. The Panthers would put up 24 points in the quarter in comparison to 15 by the Golden Eagles. When the halftime buzzer sounded, CU found themselves down 47-23.
  • The third quarter was more of the same, with Davenport applying smothering pressure. Rebekah Crosby connected on two free throws, five minutes into the quarter to give CU their first points of the second half. Crosby tallied 8 of Cornerstone's 10 points in the quarter as Davenport added an additional 23 points to take a 70-35 lead into the fourth.
  • Cornerstone rotated their lineups, allowing their entire active roster to see the floor while 27 fourth quarter points from the Panthers stretched the gap to 50 points by the end of the game.

  • Davenport grabbed 25 offensive rebounds on the night, which the most that Cornerstone has allowed in a game this season.
  • CU shot 1-17 on the night from the three-point line, while Davenport shot 4-21.
  • Cornerstone attempted 12 free throws on the night, going 8-12 from the line. Davenport ended the night 21-27 from the charity stripe.
  • The Panthers scored 41 points off of Cornerstone's 29 turnovers, generating instant offense throughout the game.
