ALMA, Mich. – The Golden Eagles started out hot in doubles play, holding Alma to no more than three games in all three doubles flights. In singles play, the dominance continued. The final match of the day was No. 6 singles,
Blaise Eisele. He dropped the first set 5-7 but stormed back, winning the second 6-1. He went onto win the ten-point tiebreaker 10-8 to give CU the sweep. Cornerstone will have a week to rest before their match on February 23 on the road at University of Northwestern Ohio.
Doubles Highlights– After winning the first two doubles flights 8-3 and 8-0, it was up to
Nick Kleitch and
Dan Ribbink to complete the sweep of the doubles flights. No. 3 doubles went onto win 8-1, finishing the doubles matches 3-0. After the three doubles matches, Cornerstone would only need to win two of the next six singles matches to win the match.
Singles Highlights– Singles play started with a pair of big wins from
John Cocoma and
Mateo Jimenez, giving the Golden eagles the five match wins they needed to beat Alma. The dominant 6-2, 6-2 win for
John Cocoma marked his fifth singles win already this season. CU continued to play well through the rest of the match including wins in No. 3, 4, and 5 singles. It came down to
Blaise Eisele, No. 6 singles, to complete the match sweep. He came through at the end of the match by winning 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
Cornerstone will play their next match at University of Northwestern Ohio on February 23.
