GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles are set for a pair of game to conclude the week, starting with senior day on Wednesday vs. UM-Dearborn and followed by a road trip to Ann Arbor to take on Concordia on Saturday. Cornerstone is coming off a tough road loss on Monday against Madonna and looks to rebound against UM-Dearborn who beat them earlier this year. Senior Day
Wednesday's final regular season home game vs. UM-Dearborn will serve as senior day where the Golden Eagles will honor their lone senior in
Sam Vander Sluis. The senior day celebration will begin roughly five minutes before the scheduled tip off and Vander Sluis will be honored along with five senior cheerleaders.
Hibbitts Debut
NCAA DI transfer
Brent Hibbitts got his first action for the Golden Eagles last time out coming off the bench and scoring 12 points while bringing down six rebounds. The Hudsonville native joined the Golden Eagles at the semester after playing at Grand Canyon University in Arizona for the first semester. Before his time at Grand Canyon, Hibbitts spent three years as a walk on with the University of Michigan Basketball team.
Scouting UM-Dearborn
The Wolverines have struggled this season, posting an 8-17, 6-10 WHAC record to sit eighth in the conference standings. UM-Dearborn is very balanced with four players averaging double figures. The Wolverines also guard the three-point line very well, holding opponents to 33.2% from behind the arc. Last time Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn met, the Wolverines scored a four-point play in the final seconds to win 67-66.
Scouting Concordia
Defending WHAC Player of the Week Jalen Thompson and the Concordia Cardinals are set to host CU on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals have posted a 7-20, 5-10 WHAC record this season to sit in 10th place in the WHAC. Despite the record, the Cardinals are one of the best in the country in creating turnovers, with a total of 216 steals on the season to rank seventh in NAIA DII. Senior Jalen Thompson leads the team with 17.6 PPG and 5.9 RPG this season. The last time these two teams met was on January 2 in Grand Rapids and Cornerstone got a close win, 85-79.
