GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles fell behind 3-0 in doubles play and then dropped all six of the singles' contests. They fell 9-0 to Calvin College in the 2019 spring opener. Cornerstone doesn't have much time to rest as they get ready for their next match this Saturday at Olivet.
Doubles Highlights– Calvin, playing on their home court, got the leg up with three dominant wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles as they outscored CU 24-4. All of the lady Golden Eagles doubles teams were taken down by Calvin, winning a combined 4 total games in the three matches.
Singles Highlights– Singles play started with a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Knights over Nicole Verhulst. This was followed by a 6-4, 6-0 loss for
Valentina Garcia. The Golden Eagles had a strong battle at No. 2 singles, as Olivia Kelly took her opponent into a third set. Olivia would eventually go down 10-7 in the tiebreaker after winning the first set 6-4 and losing the second 0-6.
Cornerstone will resume play in Grand Rapids on February 9 when they travel to Olivet College for their 2
ndmatch of the spring season.
