Vander Sluis named to 2019 Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Small College Basketball has announced its third list for the 2019 Bevo Francis Award and has cut the nominees down to 25. Senior Sam Vander Sluis has once again made the cut being one of the nominees in the top 25 listed for the award. The Bevo Francis award highlights the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA DI, NAIA DII, and the NCCAA. The finalists for the award will be announced on April 6, 2019 as the committee narrows the list to 10 candidates. 

Vander Sluis concluded an outstanding senior season at Cornerstone averaging 20.7 PPG and 15.8 RPG. The senior finishes his career as the program leader in rebounds for a career, season, and single game, while also recording the most career rebounds in NAIA DII National Tournament history. In the national tournament, Vander Sluis recorded a 27 rebound game to break a program and national tournament record. In all of NAIA Division II, Sam Vander Sluis finishes the season ranked first in total rebounds with 552 and total blocks with 92.

Members of the Bevo Francis Award committee include the following coaches: Tobin Anderson - St. Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.), Gerald Holmes - Bloomfield (N.J.), Gary Stewart - Stevenson (Md.), Arlen Galloway - Wentworth (Mass.), Chris Briggs - Georgetown (Ky.), Bill Dreikosen - Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Klint Pleasant - Rochester (Mich.), Ryan Kane - Ripon (Wisc.), Mark Berokoff – Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.), Mike Donnelly – Florida Southern, Rhett Soliday – Vanguard (Calif.), Sam Hargraves – Alma (Mich.) and Ryan Looney – Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.).
 
The 2019 Bevo Francis Award winner will be announced on April 8. The award will be presented to the winner on May 11 at the SCB National Awards Show in conjunction with the SCB Alumni Association's Celebration of the Game event at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
