GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were able to beat Indiana Tech in their first match back in the Midwest after their spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. Cornerstone swept the doubles matches at the start of the day. Within singles play, CU was able to seal the win by taking four of the six matches in straight sets. The next match Cornerstone will play is on March 22
ndagainst their cross-town rival Aquinas.
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone started by winning the No.1 doubles flight. This 8-2 victory was the eight doubles win of the season for
Valentina Garcia and
Marissa Hooker. Cornerstone won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches because they were not played due to Indiana Tech did not have any players to fill those positions.
Singles Highlights– CU was able to defeat Indiana Tech in four out of the six singles matches.
Olivia Kelley, No. 2 singles, was able to win her 10
thsingles match of the year 6-0, 7-5. After the third singles match, Cornerstone was losing the singles flights 1-2, after they dropped No. 1 and No. 3 matches. The lady Golden Eagles were able to take the win due to the fact that Indiana Tech did not have any players to fill the No. 4, 5, or 6 singles flights.
Cornerstone has another little break between matches as they get set to take on their crosstown rival Aquinas University on Friday, March 22 in Grand Rapids.
