GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were able to take care of their cross-town rival Aquinas by a score of 5-2 on Friday evening. Cornerstone won both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to take the match lead 2-1. In singles play, CU took started off slow but ended up winning three straight singles flights to end the match. Cornerstone won't have much time to rest as they wake up early tomorrow morning to travel to Lawrence Tech.
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone started the match with a loss at No. 1 doubles but were able to bounce back and win the other two flights. The second doubles flight,
Mateo Jimenez and
Aliaksei Kanstantsinau won their fifth match as partners 8-2. To finish the doubles, No. 3 doubles were able to win 8-6 in a comeback win that put CU up 2-1 in total match wins.
Singles Highlights– CU lost the first singles match but, just like doubles, were able to bounce back and show their dominance. After No. 1 singles, Cornerstone won the next three matches which gave them their fifth match to secure the win. There were close matches that went in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Mateo Jimenez was among the CU players that had to battle for the 7-6, 5-7, 10-6 victory.
Cornerstone will play another match tomorrow, March 23
rd, on the road against Lawrence Tech at 5:00p.m.
