Softball opens WHAC play with split at Rochester

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened up WHAC play with two games at Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. After a solid 4-1 victory in game one, Cornerstone dropped game two by a score of 6-2 to start conference play with a 1-1 record. The team will face two more WHAC teams this weekend as the Indiana Tech Warriors will come to town on Friday before Northwestern Ohio makes a visit on Saturday.

Game 1: Cornerstone 4 – Rochester 1
  • Maddie Vassar blasted her first career home run in the 2nd inning. The long ball to left center brought in the game's first three runs.
  • McKena Razenberg added to the lead with an RBI single in the 5th inning to make it 4-0.
  • Rochester's lone run scored on a wild pitch in the 5th inning.
  • Kaitlin Johnson's pitching line: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 9 K
  • McKena Razenberg had her first career three-hit game.

3 – Maddie Vassar tied a career high in RBI and McKena Razenberg set a career high in hits in game one. 
4 –  Four hits on the day for both Sierra Sanchez and McKena Razenberg
9 –  Nine consecutive games reaching base safely for Courtney Ducharme, who had a walk in game one and a pair of hits in game two. Ducharme has 13 hits over that nine-game stretch.
9 –  Career high in strikeouts for Kaitlin Johnson in game one. 


What's Next?
The Golden Eagles (7-13, 1-1 WHAC) will host Indiana Tech on Friday at the CU Softball Field before welcoming Northwestern Ohio to Grand Rapids on Saturday.
