ORLANDO, Fla. – The Golden Eagles played Judson University at 11:30a.m. but were unable to take the win. CU then played and won their second game of the day against Penn State Berks University at 6:30p.m. Cornerstone followed their tough 2-7 loss to Judson by beating Penn State Berks 9-0. The win in their second match of the day marked the forth shutout win of the season. The girls will play another match tomorrow against the University of St. Francis. Tomorrow will mark the forth of six straight match days in a row on their trip to Florida.
Match one: Judson University
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone was able to win one of the three doubles matches they played against Judson.
Amanda VerHulst and
Abbie Meeuwsen, No. 3 doubles, took the win 8-4. This win for the No. 3 doubles flight marked the third win of the season for VerHulst and Meeuwsen.
Singles Highlights– CU took on more stiff competition in singles play. Cornerstone lost a few very close matches. The singles play was, however, highlighted by three set comeback from
Amanda VerHulst, No. 5 singles, and a dominant victory from
Olivia Kelley, No. 2 singles. After losing the first set 2-6, Amanda charged back to win the next 6-3 and the 10-point tiebreaker 10-6.
Olivia Kelley with a 6-3, 6-1 win today sealed her seventh singles win of the season.
Match two: Penn State Berks University
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone started off red hot in doubles play in their second match of the day. By winning all three flights, CU was able to enter singles only needing two more wins to secure the win. The Golden Eagles were able to hold their opponent to no more than 4 games wins in all three matches. The No. 1 doubles flight won their 8-game pro set 8-0, No. 2 doubles won their match 8-2, and No. 3 doubles capped off the sweep by winning 8-4.
Singles Highlights– CU continued their dominance by winning the first two singles matches, which sealed the victory for Cornerstone. The lady Golden Eagles weren't satisfied with just winning the match; a match sweep was the goal. All flights were able to dominate the field. In fact, Cornerstone was able to hold their opponent to three or less game wins in two sets played! The great performance by CU was capped off by a 6-0, 6-1 win from No. 6 singles,
Taylor Shoults.
Cornerstone will play yet another game in Florida tomorrow against St. Francis at 11:30a.m.
