GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were able to complete their fifth sweep of the season against Grace Christian University. CU dominated all three doubles flights to start the match. Cornerstone won all six of the singles matches and didn't allow their opponent more than two games in five out of the six matches. Cornerstone will host Concordia for the final WHAC match of the season on Friday, April 12.
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone was able to go three for three in doubles matches. The most dominant performance of the three doubles flights came from No. 2 doubles, played by
Nicole VerHulst and
Olivia Kelley. Olivia and Nicole defeated GCU 8-1 for their 11
thwin as partners this season. No. 1 doubles won their match 8-4 and No. 3 was able to secure the victory 8-6.
Singles Highlights– CU kept the momentum going by sweeping all six singles flights immediately after winning all doubles matches.
Olivia Kelley, No. 2 singles, did not lose a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Both No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots only dropped one game.
Valentina Garcia and
Amanda VerHulst continued the team's dominance by only allowing 2 games within each of their matches. And in the final match of the day, Cornerstone's
Taylor Shoults won 1-6, 6-2, 10-2 in her second full match of the season.
Cornerstone's next match will be Friday vs. Concordia to close out the WHAC regular season.
