ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles ended their 10-game road stretch on Saturday with two games against UM-Dearborn at Alumni Field. Cornerstone nearly erased a 10-run deficit in game one, but ultimately fell short by a score of 14-10. With the bases loaded in a 3-3 deadlock in game two, UM-Dearborn came out victorious with a walkoff single. The two losses sets Cornerstone back to 8-28 overall, 2-16 WHAC heading into Monday's non-conference doubleheader against Olivet.
Game 1: Cornerstone 10 – UM-Dearborn 14
- Lexi Lieske drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning.
- Michigan-Dearborn rallied for 11 runs over the first three innings of play for a commanding 11-1 lead
- Lieske earned her second RBI of the game with a bases-loaded single in the 5th inning.
- Cierra Langejans followed with a bases-clearing hit to center field.
- Sierra Sanchez and Madison Gallagher each recorded RBI hits to cap off a six-run 5th inning, making it 11-7 after five innings.
- Lieske and Langejans each recorded their third RBIs of the game in the 6th inning. Lieske with an RBI double; Langejans with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 11-10.
- The Wolverines scored three insurance runs in the 6th inning and finished the game on top, 14-10.
GAME ONE NOTABLES:
Game 2: Cornerstone 3 – UM-Dearborn 4 (8 innings)
- Michigan-Dearborn led 3-0 after three innings.
- In the 4th inning, Savanna Sanchez tallied CU's first hit of the game with an infield RBI single that made the score 3-2.
- Alicia Ontiveros, who hit a walkoff single against UM-Dearborn last year, came through clutch once again with a game-tying RBI single in the 6th inning.
- Kailin Hurrle led off the 7th inning with her first career hit, but was stranded on base to keep the score at 3-3.
- UM-Dearborn ended the game with a walkoff bases-loaded single in the 8th inning.
- Kaitlin Johnson tallied four strikeouts over 4.2 innings and surrendered one earned run and six hits.
