Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Cornerstone was able to win in close match with Spring Arbor. CU started Saturday's match off by taking two of the three doubles matches. The three singles victories were enough to secure the Golden Eagles third straight win, concluding the regular season. After this final regular season match, CU will play in the WHAC tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, April 18
thwith an opponent and location still yet to be determined.
Doubles Highlights– Cornerstone began the match by winning two out of the three doubles matches. These wins by No. 1 and No. 3 doubles gave CU the 2-1 match lead heading into singles play. This meant that the Golden Eagles would only have to win half of the singles matches to win the match.
Amanda VerHulst and
Lauren Brendel defeated Spring Arbor 8-6 in a nail bitter. This was Lauren's fifth doubles win in her fifth full match of the season.
Singles Highlights– CU was able to win the three singles matches they needed in order to secure the victory over Spring Arbor. The three flights that won were No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. The No. 4 singles match, played by
Nicole VerHulst, was a three-set thriller. After not winning a game in the first set, VerHulst was able to battle back and won the hard-fought match by a score of 0-6, 6-4, 10-8. This match was her 13
thwin of the season and secured the victory for Cornerstone.
Cornerstone's will play in the WHAC tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, April 18
th.
