SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Golden Eagles began a ten-game road stretch on Friday evening with a doubleheader at Lourdes. Three late runs pushed Cornerstone to a 5-4 victory in game one before Lourdes responded with a 7-5 victory in game two. The split brings Cornerstone's record to 8-20 overall, 2-8 WHAC heading into Saturday morning's doubleheader at #RV Siena Heights.
Game 1: Cornerstone 5 – Lourdes 4
- Hannah May and McKena Razenberg recorded back-to-back RBIs in the top of the 2nd inning to put CU up 2-0.
- Lourdes brought home their first run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd to cut the deficit in half before evening the score at 2-2 in the 3rd inning.
- The Gray Wolves took a 4-2 lead with a two-run home run in the 5th inning.
- Alessa Baldwin-Buchner hit an RBI double to chisel Lourdes' lead down to 4-3 in the 6th inning.
- Two more unearned runs came home in the 6th inning to give CU a 5-4 advantage heading into the final frame.
- Lourdes had the game-tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th inning, but freshman pitcher Ashley Loera was able to seal the deal in the circle for the Golden Eagles.
Game 2: Cornerstone 5 – Lourdes 7
- Lourdes plated five runs in the 1st inning after sending every batter to the plate.
- Back-to-back RBI singles from Maddie Vassar and Alicia Ontiveros highlighted a three-run 2nd inning for the Golden Eagles, cutting the lead to 5-3.
- The Gray Wolves padded their lead with an insurance run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make it 6-3.
- Cornerstone brought home two unearned runs in the 4th inning to make it 6-5.???????
- Lexi Lieske led off the 6th inning with a base hit, but the potential game-tying run was stranded at third base.
- Lourdes tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning before retiring the CU batters 1-2-3 to secure the victory.
- Rachel Younts pitched all six innings, surrendered only two earned runs, and recorded three strikeouts.
