Women's soccer suffers first loss of the season against Calvin University

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles dropped their first game of the season 2-0 to Calvin University in a "Battle of the Beltline". CU struggled to generate offense, only creating a few clear chances. With the loss, Cornerstone is now 5-1-0 and looks to rebound Friday in a home match against Grace Christian University at 7 pm.
 
The Highlights
  • After a save by junior Mikayla Johnson, Madissen Kruit made a clutch goal line clearance in the 22nd minute.
  • Senior Maddie Tassoni saw her shot go over the bar in the 25th minute. The chance turned out to be the Golden Eagles best attacking opportunity of the first half.
  • After 45 minutes of battling, the score was tied 0-0
  • Calvin found the back of the net just two minutes into the second half when junior Grace Visser found freshman Emma Thompson to make it 1-0 Knights.
  • With 36 minutes remaining, Grace Visser created another chance for Calvin which was finished by junior Jessica Paulson to put the Knights up 2-0.
  • Both teams created a few chances in the remaining 30 minutes, but at match end the score was 2-0 Calvin.
