Men’s and Women’s Tennis earn 6-1 wins in season opener vs. Adrian

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got off to a good start to the 2019-20 tennis season as both the men's and women's tennis teams earned 6-1 wins over Adrian in the season opener at Northpointe Christian High School. Cornerstone is now 1-0 on both the men's and women's side as the men will play again on Wednesday against Calvin and the women will not play again until October 5 against Judson. 
 
 
Men's Recap
 
Doubles Highlights – Cornerstone earned wins at both the number one and number two doubles position as Aliaksei Kanstantsinau and Mateo Jiminez won 6-2 and John Cocoma and Tomas Yacuzio won 6-4. This earned CU the first point of the match to go up 1-0. 
 
Singles Highlights – Cornerstone then won number one through number five singles, highlighted by a 6-2, 6-1 win at number four singles from Aliaksei Kanstantsinau
 
Women's Recap
 
Doubles Highlights – Similarly to the men, the Golden Eagle women would win the number one and number two singles matches to take a 1-0 lead early over Adrian. Valentina Garcia and Marissa Menichini won 6-4, while Nicole VerHulst and Alayna Bowman won 7-6 in a tie breaker. 
 
Singles Highlights – Just like the men again, Cornerstone won the number one through number five singles matches. Freshman Alayna Bowman dominated in her debut at no. 1 singles winning 6-1, 6-0 to help CU earn a 6-1 win in the season opener. 
 
 
What's Next? 
The men's tennis team is set to take on Calvin on Wednesday while the women's team will not be in action again until October 5 where they will host Judson University (Ill.).
