Women's soccer falls in overtime to Concordia 3-2

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After falling behind on two separate occasions, Cornerstone battled back twice but fell in overtime to Concordia 3-2. With the loss, Cornerstone is now 7-2-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles next opportunity to bounce back is October 2 against Aquinas. CU will host the Saints at home with a 7 pm kickoff.
 
The Highlights
  • Concordia struck first in the 12th minute. Samantha Golchuk headed home the opener for the Cardinals.
  • Cornerstone struck back through a low free-kick by Alexys Riksen that flew across the turf and found the bottom left corner to make it 1-1.
  • 13 minutes into the second half, Concordia took the lead off of a breakaway by Samantha Golchuk for her second of the match.
  • With 22 minutes left in the half, Phoebe LaCroix headed home a corner kick from Anna Morgan to tie the match again, this time at 2-2.
  • The match was all square after 90 minutes, so overtime would be necessary to determine a winner.
  • Just over a minute into overtime, Concordia was able to capitalize on confusion in the Golden Eagle defense and Samantha Golchuk passed the ball into an open goal to complete her hat-trick and win the match.
