GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued their winning ways, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene University 3-1, stretching their win streak to three matches to start the season. The first half ended scoreless with CU's
Kylie Adams breaking the deadlock in the 55
th minute off of a
Raelee VandenBerg cross.
Maddie Tassoni made it 2-0 in the 80
th minute with the assist going to
Jozlyn VanTol. MVNU answered back quickly in the 82
nd minute bringing the score to 2-1. The next couple of minutes were frantic as both sides pushed for a decisive goal. The ball fell to the feet of freshman
Anna Morgan at the halfway line in the 86
th minute. Morgan beat three defenders off the dribble, set herself up, and unleashed a missile from over 30 yards into the top right corner to put the icing on the cake. The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow against Huntington University at 5 pm.
The Highlights
- Both CU and MVNU tallied 8 shots in the match with the Golden Eagles putting 5 on target while the Cougars put all 8 of their shots on frame.
- Although she conceded a goal, junior Makayla Johnson made 7 saves against a potent Cougars attack to help bring home the victory.
- Senior Maddie Tassoni's goal brought her career tally up to four as a Golden Eagle.
- Kylie Adams continued the hot start to her sophomore season, tallying her second goal of the season off a fantastic cross from junior Raelee VandenBerg.
- Freshman Anna Morgan continued her absolutely torrid start to the year adding her second goal of the season on an unassisted wonder goal.
- Jozlyn VanTol leads the Golden Eagles with three assists after adding another today, she along with Anna Morgan and Carly Joseph are establishing themselves as major freshman contributors.
