Women's basketball defeats Grace Christian for the second time this season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second time this season, Cornerstone defeated the Tigers of Grace Christian by a score of 68-56. After a tough loss to Aquinas, CU shook off any ill effects and hit the road to face the Tigers. A fast-offensive start helped put CU up early and they were able to hold on for the rest of the game. Rebekah Crosby led all scorers with 14 points and was joined in double figures by Allyson Richards, who scored a career-high 11. With the victory Cornerstone is now 3-17 on the year and are 1-9 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will look to keep their momentum rolling this Saturday when they welcome #25 Lawrence Tech to Mol Arena. Tip-off is set for 1 pm and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com

Game Flow
  • Although Grace scored the first points of the game it was Cornerstone who commanded the first quarter. The Golden Eagles dominated in the paint scoring 8 of their 20 first quarter points down low. Four three pointers by the Tigers kept them close but CU led 20-16 after one.
  • The second quarter saw CU stretch their lead to as many as 10 points midway through the quarter. However, the Tigers battled back and a late foul by Katrina Goebel allowed Grace to knock down a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 38-33 going into the locker room.
  • Grace came out swinging to start the second half, cutting the Golden Eagle lead to one with 4:37 remaining in the third. CU was able to right the ship though, settling in and taking a 50-45 lead into the fourth.
  • The start of the fourth quarter was all Tigers as Grace scored seven straight points to go up 52-50. A huge three-pointer from Sterling DeGayner put CU back on top and the Golden Eagles wouldn't look back. Cornerstone led the rest of the way and knocked down their free throws late to win 68-56.
