Women's basketball drops WHAC contest to Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were unable to play spoiler this evening against the Concordia Cardinals, falling 83-50. It was a tough shooting night for Cornerstone, as CU shot 34.6% from the floor and 11.8% from beyond the arc. With the loss, the Golden Eagles sit at 2-16 on the season and are 1-8 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will look to bounce back against a strong Aquinas team this Saturday at 1 pm. The game will be played at Mol Arena and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com
 
Game Flow
  • Concordia came out of the gate quickly, putting up 23 points in the first quarter. The Cardinals topped 20 points in three of the four quarters on the night. Cornerstone was unable to keep pace, tallying 12 in the first.
  • The Golden Eagles looked to claw back in the second, scoring 15 points in the quarter. Shelby Nyboer supplied 8 of her 10 points in the first half, but CU was unable to close the gap on Concordia. The Cardinals continued their strong offensive play with 20 points of their own to give them a 43-27 lead at the half.
  • Cornerstone came out of the break looking to gain some ground on Concordia but were unable to do so. 22 more points for the Cardinals stretched their lead even further, as Cornerstone put up 15 in the quarter.
  • The Golden Eagle offense struggled in the fourth quarter, generating 8 points. Concordia was able to ease off the pace slightly as they scored 18 points in the game's final quarter.

  • The Cardinals three-point attack proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles to handle, shooting 45.5% from deep on 10-22 shooting.

  • Cornerstone struggled to turn over the Concordia offense, registering only one steal on the night. Concordia's defense capitalized, snatching 14 steals of their own.
