Men's Soccer continues season with Olivet Nazarene, Siena Heights

Coming off an explosive 5-0 victory over Concordia last week Saturday, the Men's Soccer team is set to continue their season with two more contests this week. The Golden Eagles (1-1) will travel to Illinois to take on Olivet Nazarene for a 3 p.m. non-conference contest before returning home for a Saturday evening match against Siena Heights. Saturday will also be the Friendship Sports BOGO (Buy one, Give one) night through a partnership with Friendship Sports International. Both of this week's contests will have live coverage available in the form of video and stats, the links to which can be found at cugoldeneagles.com or at the links below.

Last Time Out

Five different players found the back of the net for the Golden Eagles in the 5-0 victory over Concordia on October 10. David Mawi and Roberto Razo each recorded a goal and an assist, while Luke Blickley, Nate Kaercher, and Logan Johns were responsible for the other goals. Roberto Razo was recognized as the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the first Golden Eagle to receive that award since 2017. 

Friendship Sports BOGO Night

During Saturday's event, the team will be hosting a buy one give one night crazy sock night through a partnership with Friendship Sports International. Sky Outfitters socks ($10) and T-Shirts ($20) will be sold throughout the week and will be available for purchase at the event while supplies last. For every item purchased, one item will be given to Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids to support homeless in need as we head into the winter months. Athletes from both the men's and women's soccer teams will be delivering the items to Mel Trotter next month.

Scouting Olivet Nazarene

Olivet Nazarene's lone contest on the season was a 3-1 victory over Lourdes on October 13. Wednesday's contest against Cornerstone will be their home opener. The Tigers went 6-4-1 on their home field last season. Olivet Nazarene is led in scoring by sophomore Max Jasper, who scored two goals against Lourdes. The Golden Eagles and Tigers have faced off in each of the last three seasons, the 2017 and 2019 contests ended in ties, while the 2018 match ended 4-1 in favor of Olivet Nazarene. 

Scouting Siena Heights

The Saints are halfway through their six-game fall schedule with a 1-2 record. The win came against Lourdes, while the losses were against Concordia and WHAC powerhouse Indiana Tech. Siena Heights was selected 8th out of 12 in the WHAC preseason coaches poll. Cornerstone holds a 5-3-2 record against the Saints since 2010, but Siena Heights prevailed most recently with a 2-0 victory in 2019.
