GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a night that meant much more to the Golden Eagles than just a soccer game, senior
Erica Mick scored a goal in the 16
th minute that proved to be the difference maker in a 1-0 win vs. Siena Heights. Cornerstone wore special socks as part of Friendship Sports International BOGO Night that raised money for Mel Trotter Ministries as well as a night that honored the teams 10 seniors before the game. With the win, CU is 3-0-1 on the year as they will conclude the fall portion of the season at Indiana Tech next Saturday at noon.
The Highlights:
- For the first time this fall the Golden Eagles dominated possession early, as Jozlyn VanTol recorded two early shots that were blocked and saved by the Siena Heights keeper Kara Bishop.
- In the 15th minute Cornerstone earned a penalty kick that was taken by junior transfer Julie Gouilliart that was saved once again by Kara Bishop.
- Just a minute later senior Erica Mick found the net on a pass from the birthday girl Skylar Scholten to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- Action significantly slowed down the remainder of the first half as both teams used multiple substitutions to try and create chances. Neither team was able to create any chances however and the two teams went into the break with the score 1-0.
- The game began to get physical in the second half as Cornerstone received three fouls and Siena Heights two yellow cards in the opening 20 minutes of the period.
- In the 70th minute Siena Heights saw their best chance with a breakaway chance on Mikayla Johnson, but the CU senior keeper stayed strong in net forcing the ball wide to keep the shutout alive.
- The final 20 minutes the Saints continued to add pressure, but eventually ran out of time as Cornerstone was able to remain undefeated with a 1-0 home win to move to 3-0-1 on the year.
By the Numbers:
- 21 – There were a total of 21 fouls in the game, 12 on Cornerstone and nine on Siena Heights.
- 4 – Each team took four corners in the game.
- 14-6 – Cornerstone outshot Siena Heights 14 to six with seven of those being on net.
- 2 – Erica Mick scored her second goal of the season and now leads the team with five points.

Cornerstone concludes the fall season at Indiana Tech for a noon kickoff on Saturday, October 31 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
