Women's basketball falls to Madonna despite career night for Rebekah Crosby

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone was unable to complete the season sweep against Madonna, falling to the Crusaders 89-72. Turnovers continued to hamper the Golden Eagles, as they coughed up the ball 22 times. Rebekah Crosby had a huge night for Cornerstone as her 20 points and 16 rebounds led the team. Defensively, CU had no answers for Victoria Guardiola. Her 24 points led all scorers. Cornerstone will leave the state for the final time this year as they travel to Lima, Ohio to take on UNOH. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com

Game Flow
  • A back-and-forth opening quarter saw multiple lead changes, as both sides battled hard. A few late Golden Eagle turnovers put the Crusaders up 8, but a late three from Sterling DeGayner brought CU within 5, 24-19.
  • Madonna took control in the second, scoring the first 8 points of the quarter to put them firmly in the driver's seat midway through the quarter. Cornerstone made multiple runs at the lead, but the Crusaders continued to pull away. A late three-point barrage put MU up 50-33 going into the half.
  • The Golden Eagles dug in for the third quarter, chipping away at Madonna's lead. In the closing seconds of the quarter, Rebekah Crosby tipped in a missed shot by Shelby Nyboer to make it 66-55 Crusaders to end the quarter.
  • Cornerstone pushed hard in the fourth, but Madonna capitalized on CU's desperation. The Crusaders defense turned up the pressure to close the game and made their free throws down the stretch to walk out of Mol Arena 89-72 victors.

  • Cornerstone shot 35.3% from three, well above their season average. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Madonna crushed their season average going 10-18 from deep for a 55.6% clip.
  • Shelby Nyboer's 18 points put her in double figures for the 16th time this season. It was the sixth time this season that she scored 18+ points in a contest.
