Women's basketball drops final road game of the season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Looking to avenge their loss earlier in the season, Cornerstone was unable to get their offense going in 73-37 loss to Aquinas. The Saints struck first and never looked back, as turnovers and poor shooting hindered the Golden Eagles. Shelby Nyboer led CU with 11 points, and was the only member of the team in double figures. A balanced offensive attack helped drive Aquinas as 11 players scored at least two points on the night. The Golden Eagles will head back to Mol Arena to take on Concordia in their final game of the season. Tip-off is set for 1 pm and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com

Game Flow
  • It was all Saints out of the gate, as Aquinas scored the first 11 points of the contest. Cornerstone couldn't find a rhythm, scoring only 7 points in the quarter. Aquinas took advantage, going up by as many as 17 and taking a 22-7 lead into the second.
  • The second quarter saw Aquinas go completely flat on offense, as the Saints scored only 6 points in the quarter. CU slowly clawed their way back, as late three pointer from Broghan Gamble made it 28-17 going into the locker room.
  • Cornerstone came out of the half hungry and looking to continue their comeback. However, Aquinas found their groove back in the third. A four minute scoreless stretch from the Golden Eagles was all AQ needed to regain control. The Saints continued to push, growing their lead to a 24-point margin by the end of the quarter.
  • Aquinas closed the door in the final frame, continuing to take advantage of a frustrated CU offense. The Golden Eagles 12 point fourth quarter was their highest scoring quarter of the afternoon, but they saw that margin doubled by the Saints. When the final buzzer sounded, Aquinas had successfully defended their home court and claimed a 73-37 victory.
