GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A young and talented Golden Eagle men's tennis team handled Albion in the 2020 opener on Saturday, winning 7-0 to improve to 3-0 overall. In doubles, the Golden Eagles dropped just one total game in the three matches, while in singles all six CU players won in straight sets. CU will play two more West Michigan teams this weekend as they travel to Hope and Davenport on Friday and Saturday for more indoor action.
Doubles
At the top,
Aliaksei Kanstantsinau and Mateo Jiminez earned a 6-0 sweep of the Albion number one doubles team.
John Cocoma and
Tomas Yacuzio did the same at number two doubles winning 6-0. The freshmem pairing of
Matthew Hall and
Tanner Howard were dominant as well winning 5-1 at number three doubles to give CU the first point of the match.
Singles
In singles, all six Golden Eagles won in straight sets.
John Cocoma did not give up a single game at the number two slot, winning 6-0, 6-0 vs. his opponent Toma Shngoo.
Nick Kleitch got action in the number six singles spot after not playing doubles and won 6-3, 6-1 over his opponent Stephen Smoker.
CU will head to Hope College on Friday for a 5 p.m. match at DeWitt Tennis Center in Holland for their next match.
