GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles snapped the skid with a big rebound win vs. Rochester leading by as many as 20 in the game and earning an 81-67 victory. Cornerstone stays above .500 in the WHAC with the win as they are 15-11, 9-8 in conference play on the year. CU will get set to host WHAC leader and number 13 Lourdes on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game as there are just three regular season game remaining.
What you need to know?
- The defense powered the Golden Eagles to an early lead, holding Rochester to just two points in the first five minutes to take a 12-2 advantage. Christian Rodriguez and Carter Nyp each hit an early three.
- After RU scored their fourth point of the game, Cornerstone went on a 5-0 run highlighted by another Christian Rodriguez three to make it 17-4.
- After leading by as many as 18, Rochester started to find their offensive rhythm cutting it to 11 at 29-18.
- Carter Nyp had significant minutes off the bench in the first half, hitting two threes and scoring a total of 12 in the period to help CU get their lead back to 18 at the break, 42-24.
- Cornerstone shot 57.1% from the field in the first half on 16-28 from the field.
- A quick layup by Cory Ainsworth out of the break pushed the Golden Eagle lead to a game high 20 at 44-24.
- Rochester would not back down however as they slowly began to chip away, going on a 14-4 run from the 16:14 mark to the 9:02 mark to make it just an eight-point game and force the Golden Eagles to use a timeout.
- The two teams traded buckets for the next four minutes as CU held onto the advantage. Peter Agba hit a layup for the Warriors to cut it as low as seven at 64-57 with 5:28 to play.
- Carter Nyp continued to be clutch behind the arc, hitting a deep three to bring the lead back to 11 at 69-58.
- Gabe Meriwether followed suit with a three of his own to make it 72-58.
- Rochester went on a 5-0 run to cut it back to just a nine, but it was too late as the Golden Eagles hit their free throws down the stretch for a huge 81-67 bounce back win.
By the Numbers
- Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures including a game high 19 points from Christian Rodriguez.
- Carter Nyp tied a season high with 17 points in the win.
- Last time CU played Rochester they fell 78-43 on the road.
- Christian Rodriguez also recorded a team high seven rebounds and six assists in the win.

Cornerstone will play WHAC leading and NAIA No. 13 Lourdes on Wednesday inside Mol Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
