Tennis Returns to Action with Sweep of Olivet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles men's and women's tennis team brought sports back to campus for the first time in 182 days with a bang, each earning 7-0 sweeps over NCAA DIII opponent Olivet College. The match that took just over two hours at NorthPointe Christian High School saw every Golden Eagle win in straight sets to start the year off 1-0 on both sides. Both teams are scheduled to play Calvin University next week with the men on September 16 and the women on September 17, but those matches are subject to change due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.

At the top flight, John Cocoma and Aliaksei Kanstantsinau needed a little more work to earn the victory, but won 6-3 to give CU the sweep and the 1-0 lead headed into singles play.

Aliaksei Kanstantsinau took the win at the number one singles position 6-0, 6-2, while Alejandro Santana in his first match as a CU athlete won 6-1, 6-1 at the number two spot.
