GOSHEN, Ind. – Cornerstone athletics returned to action for the first time since November 17 with the program opener for the men's volleyball team on the road at receiving votes Goshen College. CU fell in straight sets 25-7, 25-13, 25-15 to drop to 0-1 on the year. The team improved each set, and Head Coach
Alex Bahn and the Golden Eagles are excited to bring the sport back to Grand Rapids for the home opener against Judson that is tentatively scheduled for next week.
What You Need to Know
- The first point in Golden Eagle program history came on a service error from Goshen's Michael Wall.
- Goshen followed the service error with an 11-0 run to go up 13-1 in the first set.
- Freshman Cade Meza recorded the first kill for CU followed by a kill from David Kerkstra.
- The Maple Leafs ended the first set on a 4-0 run to win 25-7.
- David Kerkstra started to heat up in set two, recording two early kills to make the score 8-4.
- The outside attack of GC was too much for Cornerstone in set two however, falling 25-13.
- Cornerstone stayed in set three, with five early points highlighted by a service ace from Cade Meza.
- A 6-1 Goshen run in the middle of the set doomed the Golden Eagles as they would fall behind 21-12.
- Goshen outside, Alexander Rabadazhiev ended the match with a kill off the assist from Michael Wahl to down the Golden Eagles 25-15 in set three and 3-0 on the match.
