MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The men's volleyball team traveled to Ohio on Saturday to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene University in the WHAC opener. The Golden Eagles fell in straight sets by a score of 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 to fall to 0-3 on the season. The team will return to Mol Arena to host Lourdes on Friday evening in search of the first victory in program history.
What You Need to Know
- The Cougars began the match with four straight points and never surrendered the lead for the rest of the first set. They built the deficit to as many as eight before winning the set by a score of 25-17.
- Cade Meza recorded four kills in the first set, including back-to-back kills for the team's 14th and 15th points.
- After trailing 10-5 in set number two, the Golden Eagles fought back to bring the score to 12-9. Mount Vernon responded with a 7-1 run to take a comfortable 19-10 lead before finishing the set 25-15.
- Mount Vernon had 13 kills in the second set while Cornerstone was only credited with five.
- The Golden Eagles began set number three by jumping out to a 4-1 lead. The Cougars, however, quickly regained the lead by earning ten of the next 11 points, making the score 11-5. After trading points, Mount Vernon used a late 7-0 run to seal the set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
