GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles began WHAC play on Friday Night against Lourdes. After splitting the first two sets, Cornerstone ran away with sets three and four to take the match by a score of 3-1. The Golden Eagles will take their perfect 5-0 record into Tuesday evening's action down the road at Aquinas.
Game Recap: Cornerstone 3 – Lourdes 1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16)
- Both teams struggled offensively early, as six of the first ten points were scored by way of attacking errors. In the middle of the first set, three straight CU attacking errors brought Lourdes' lead to 15-9.
- The Golden Eagles worked their way back into the game and brought Lourdes' lead to 21-17. A pair of services aces from Kayla Clark concluded an impressive 8-0 run to snag the first set by a score of 25-21.
- Cornerstone's 4-1 lead early in the second set would prove to be the biggest lead for either team in the second frame as the teams traded points all the way until the Gray Wolves prevailed 25-23, handing the Golden Eagles their first set loss of the season.
- Lourdes scored the first two points of set three, but the Golden Eagles responded with a 7-0 run and rode that momentum all the way to a 25-11 victory to take a 2-1 advantage.
- After establishing a quick 9-2 advantage in the fourth frame, the Golden Eagles coasted to a 25-16 victory in set four to win the match 3-1.
