LIMA, Ohio – Despite two goals second half goals from
David Mawi, Cornerstone couldn't quite get it done against Northwestern Ohio, falling 3-2 in OT. This was a close loss as CU was able to capitalize on two of their four shots in this game while their defense was able to fend off the Racers constant attack for most of the game. A goal late in the game and in OT sealed this thriller for the Racers. This loss moves the Golden Eagles to 3-8-1, 2-3-0 in the WHAC.
The Highlights:
- The first half was all UNO as they registered every shot and corner kick.
- Northwestern Ohio pressured Cornerstone early with three shots in the first ten minutes.
- UNO had a few opportunities that were saved by Alan Roman. The defense was involved often, as well, with Luke Blickley making a defensive save late in the first half to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
- David Mawi started off the second half strong for CU, netting a goal in the 57th minute to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- Just two minutes later in the 59th, UNO equalized on a Gustavo Moses goal.
- Later in the 59th minute, Northwestern Ohio was given two yellow cards, one to Nic Baigrie and one to the entire Racers team.
- Late in the 67th minute, UNO was given their third yellow card, this time to Mark McAuley, for a hard foul in the box, and the ref awarded CU a PK.
- David Mawi registered his second goal of the game as he cashed in on the PK opportunity. This gave CU a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute.
- Then, in the 89th minute, UNO was awarded a PK of their own. They evened the game as Gustavo Moses scored on the PK for his second goal of the game.
- With 16 seconds left, UNO's Mark McAuley put a shot on goal that was saved by Alan Roman to send the game into OT.
- In OT, a PK awarded to UNO in the 95th minute. Ivan Tadic put it in the back of the net to win the game 3-2 for the Racers.
