COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – In a game played at Comstock Park High School due to poor field conditions at the Cornerstone soccer field,
Christian Galloway played the hero on Wednesday night scoring the golden goal in a dramatic 2-1 OT win against UM-Dearborn. The Golden Eagles scored the first goal of the game in the 53
rd minute on a
Nate Kaercher header. Then, in the 78
th minute, a CU own goal off of a long, fluky Wolverine throw in equalized the game. In OT, less than a minute went by when
Nate Kaercher found
Christian Galloway on a cross to win the game.
The Highlights:
- The match started off with three corner kicks in the first four minutes, though none of the attempts threatened to find the back of the net.
- Cornerstone had four straight shots midway through the first half, capped by David Mawi, coming off a two-goal performance in the last game, hitting the post.
- In the 40th minute, Jason Lugo had a shot that went just wide left of the goal.
- In the 53rd minute, Christian Galloway chased a ball down the line and struck a cross to the far post. David Mawi headered the ball in front of the net and Nate Kaercher put it away with a header of his own for a 1-0 CU lead.
- Cornerstone kept up the offensive pressure as Jeff Herrema took a close range shot off a rebound that the UM-Dearborn goalie got a fingertip on to push the ball wide right.
- The Wolverines had a few shots late in the game and finally secured the equalizer on a CU own goal in the 78th minute.
- The Golden Eagles had a few opportunities in the final minute of regulation, but could not find the back of the net.
- In the first minute of OT, Nate Kaercher went on a long run and sent a cross through the 18 yard box where Christian Galloway put a foot on the ball to score the game winner for a 2-1 Cornerstone win.
