Women's Soccer Eliminated From Postseason Contention After 2-1 Loss at LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.  –  Cornerstone held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the match, but couldn't quite hold on as Lawrence Tech scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to take down the Golden Eagles 2-1. This match had a lot on the line as the loss eliminated Cornerstone from qualifying for the WHAC tournament. 

What you need to know!
  • Cornerstone threatened early with three shots and a corner kick in the first 14 minutes of play.
  • Then in the 14th minute, Kylie Adams scored on an assist by Madison Radcliffe to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
  • Lawrence Tech had many opportunities as the first half went one, with a few shots being blocked by the defense, and Angelina VanderBeek making her second save of the game.
  • The Blue Devils continued to threaten, but the Golden Eagle defense stood tough, sending away LTU for the rest of the half.
  • Sierah Adams had a shot at the end of the first half, but it was blocked, with CU taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech each had opportunities early in the second half, with LTU's Jenny Dear having a shot on goal, and CU's Arianna Rau hitting the post in the 51st minute.
  • Cornerstone threatened again a few times, as Laura Helder and Julie Gouilliart both had shots saved by LTU keeper Sydney Schnurstein.
  • In the 76th minute, Lawrence Tech finally broke through on their fourth shot after the first three on the attack were saved by Angelina VanderBeek. Cassidy Wiest put the ball in the back of the net to equalize the match at 1-1.
  • Less than two minutes later, LTU took a 2-1 lead after Jaiden Konrad scored on a Cassidy Wiest assist.
  • Neither team threatened for the rest of the match as Lawrence Tech took the win 2-1, eliminating CU from postseason contention.
