Women’s Soccer rebounds with rout of Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich.  –  The Golden Eagles respond from a four-game losing streak with a 6-0 road rout of the Rochester Warriors on Wednesday afternoon. CU scored six goals for the first time since October 12, 2016, as Julie Gouilliart and Madison Radcliffe each score a pair in the win. Cornerstone now improves to 3-4-1 overall and they earn their first conference win of 2021 to sit at 1-3-0 in WHAC play. The team will have a tough test on Saturday as they travel to NAIA (25) Northwestern Ohio for a 1 p.m. match. 
 
What you need to know?
  • In the lone game that CU will play indoors this season, Cornerstone got off to a fast start with multiple shots on net to begin the game. 
  • In the 13th minute, the freshman Arianna Rau was the first CU player to find the net, scoring without an assist to make it 1-0. 
  • Just five minutes later, Julie Gouilliart scored her third goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles insurance at 2-0. 
  • CU recorded 14 shots in the first half and led 2-0 at the intermission. 
  • To open the second half, Cornerstone picked up right where they left off, as Madison Radcliffe scored her first goal of the season on a pass from Kylie Adams in the 49th minute to make it 3-0. 
  • Madison Radcliffe found the net again in the 52nd minute on an assist from Elayna Cady that made it 4-0. 
  • Julie Gouilliart took over the team lead for goals with her fourth of the season in the 66th minute, dribbling through the defense and beating the keeper. 
  • The cherry on top was secured in the 67th minute as Skylar Scholten went upper 90 from outside the box for her first goal of the season to make it 6-0. 
  • Every player for CU that was healthy got into the contest, using 13 substitutions, including Angelina VanderBeek who played the second half in goal. 
 
By the Numbers
25-1 – Cornerstone outshot Rochester 25-1 for the third most shots of the 2021 season. 
14 – Cornerstone had 14 shots on goal, led by Julie Gouilliart with four. 
1 – Only one corner kick was recorded in the game, as CU recorded the lone kick in the first half.

Cornerstone heads to NAIA (25) Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, October 9 for a 1 p.m. WHAC match.
