Women's Basketball Falls to #14 Indiana Tech at Home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Indiana Tech was running on all cylinders as they took down Cornerstone 84-41 behind the offensive efforts of Taya Andrews and Kyra Whitaker. The Trojans got off to a quick start in this WHAC opener and didn't look back as they took a 21-10 lead into the first break, and a 46-18 advantage into halftime. Emma Costen (9 points) and Kennedy Helderop (7 points) did their best to lead the Golden Eagles squad against their toughest opponent to date. The loss drops CU to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the WHAC.

Game Flow:
  • Indiana Tech raced out to an 11-2 lead after a Kyra Whitaker and-one just two-and-a-half minutes into the game.
  • Down 17-8, Kennedy Helderop got on the board after hitting a layup to chip at the Trojan lead with 1:46 to go in the first quarter.
  • Kyra Whitaker hit another layup to give the Trojans a 21-10 advantage going into the first break.
  • Mackenzie Stien got the second quarter started well for the Golden Eagles, hitting a layup to cut the Indiana Tech lead to 21-12.
  • The Trojans went on a 16-0 run to extend their lead to 37-12 after a three with 5:40 to go in the second quarter.
  • A Kennedy Helderop layup with 4:42 to go in the second quarter put the Golden Eagles down 21, 37-16. That was the closest CU would be to Indiana Tech for the rest of the game.
  • After two Helderop free throws to bring the Golden Eagles within 28, Indiana Tech took a 46-18 lead into halftime. 
  • The third quarter was much of the same for Indiana Tech, as they continuing their scoring assault to give the Trojans a 68-27 lead heading into the final stanza.
  • Down 70-29, Olivia Kubik's three allowed Cornerstone to eclipse 30 this afternoon with 8:59 remaining in the game.
  • Keeli Lindstrom hit two free throws with 18 second to play to score the final Golden Eagle points as Indiana Tech finished off the game with an 84-41 win.
By the numbers:
56/24 – Cornerstone was outscored 56 to 24 in the paint. 
2-13 – CU shot 2-13 from beyond the arc this afternoon.
9 – Freshman Emma Costen led the Golden Eagles with 9 points.  
 
What's next? 
Cornerstone hosts rival Aquinas this Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m. for their second game in WHAC play.
