Last Week Recap

Cornerstone completed their longest home stretch since the 2009-10 season, and longest to begin a campaign in program history with WHAC wins over Indiana Tech and Aquinas. CU saw balance across the board with four players scoring in double-figures in each of the two contests. CU goes 6-1 in their seven game home-stand as they will hit the road for the first time this week to take on Lawrence Tech and Siena Heights.

Rodriguez Eight Away

Redshirt-senior Christian Rodriguez is eight assists away from the program record after recording nine against Indiana Tech and eight against Aquinas last week. Rodriguez is looking to break a 32 year old record set by Scott O'Day who recorded 576 career assists from 1985-89. Rodriguez is on an absolute tear to begin the year for CU as he ranks second in the NAIA in total points with 170, and second in the NAIA in assists with 44.

Three Point Line

Cornerstone has defended the lights out at the three point line, as not a single opponent this season has made more than seven from deep in a game. CU on the other hand, has hit 13 or more threes in four of their seven games this year. As a team, Cornerstone ranks 28th in the NAIA with 10.3 threes per game as they have hit 33 more than their opponents.

The Wayland Brothers

Now that Cory Ainsworth has returned to full strength, Cornerstone sees Carter Nyp and Cory Ainsworth, the Wayland Union high school teammates, back to starting in the post together. Both have had sneaky good starts to the year, as Nyp averages 15.3 PPG and a team best 7.3 RPG and Ainsworth is averaging 13.5 PPG with a team best 67.7 field goal percentage.

Scouting Lawrence Tech

Head Coach Josh Pickens is in his fifth season at Lawrence Tech and has helped the team to a 4-3, 2-0 WHAC record. Cornerstone and LTU are the only two teams in the WHAC so far with two conference wins. The Blue Devils have six seniors on the team this year and they are very successful on the defensive end, holding opponents to 69.3 PPG. Lawrence Tech plays a very guard heavy style and they are led by defending WHAC Player of the Week Brandon Beavers who averages 19.1 PPG on 49.5% shooting.

Scouting Siena Heights

The young Saints who have 10 freshmen have gotten off to a slow start at 1-5, 0-2 WHAC. The team's only win came at Ohio Christian, 96-81. SHU averages just 7.3 assists per game as a team as they have struggled to move the ball around the court. Siena has been unable to figure out a consistent starting lineup this year as well, with 11 different players earning a start. Senior Kevin Rice leads the team with 16.0 PPG and is second on the team with 4.8 RPG.
