ADRIAN, Mich. – Cornerstone had a hard time containing the Siena Heights offense as the Golden Eagles fell against the Saints 85-62. Siena Heights had four scorers in double digits, while Peyton Banks and Anaya Powell scored 20 points apiece.
Olivia Kubik led the Golden Eagle offense for the second game in a row, dropping 12 points on the night. Kubik also led the team with five rebounds. Cornerstone drops to 1-7 on the year, 0-4 in WHAC play.
Game Flow:
- Kennedy Helderop got the scoring started with a three pointer to put CU up 3-2 early in the first quarter.
- Down 11, Ellen Kresge hit a big three for the Golden Eagles to cut the Saint lead to eight with 1:30 to go in the first quarter.
- SHU hit a layup with 22 seconds to go in the first, and the Saints took a 24-13 lead into the first break.
- Olivia Kubik scored the next four points for the Golden Eagles, hitting two free throws and layup. However, the Golden Eagles were still down seven, 24-17.
- Down 14, Mackenzie Stien hit a layup and Olivia Kubik hit a three to drop the Siena Heights lead to 37-28 with 1:56 to go in the second quarter.
- After a pair of free throws, SHU took a 42-30 lead into the half.
- Siena Heights got off to a strong start in the second half, eventually accruing a 20 point lead with 2:18 to play in the third quarter.
- After a three minute scoring draught in the fourth, Stephanie Ainsworth hit a layup for the Golden Eagles, but SHU still held a 77-51 advantage.
- Scoring ended on the night when Skylar Scholten hit a three for CU. Siena Heights would go on to win the game 85-62.
By the numbers:
38.9 – Cornerstone finished 21-54 in field goals on the night, a 38.9 shooting percentage.
49-21 – Cornerstone was outrebounded 49-21 in the game.
33/24 – The Golden Eagles did finish with more bench points than the Saints, scoring nine more on the night.
