LIVONIA, Mich. – In a match that decided the WHAC Regular Season Champion, the Golden Eagles fell short, dropping a four-set match at Madonna, 17-25, 13-25, 27-25, 26-28. Cornerstone will now be the two seed in the WHAC Tournament as they finish the regular season 22-13 on the year. CU will host the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal as the two seed against an opponent yet to be announced on Wednesday, November 6 at 8 p.m. inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Madonna - 3 (17-25, 13-25, 27-25, 26-28)
- Cornerstone fell behind early in set one, as Madonna's Jaeda Porter recorded a kill to make it 7-2 Crusaders early.
- A kill from Rylie Walters would cut the deficit to two at 10-8.
- CU could not get closer than two in set one, as a Golden Eagle attack error ended set one in Madonna's favor, 25-17.
- Kylie Andras recorded an early service ace to give CU a 3-1 lead in set two.
- Madonna responded with a 7-0 run to go on top 9-4.
- Another 5-0 run and then a 4-0 run to end the set gave MU a dominant set two victory, 25-13.
- Madonna again carried the momentum into set three, as a block from Kacie Stoneburner and Jaeda Porter made it 6-1.
- Cornerstone responded with a 6-0 run later in the set that saw two kills from Kaylee Dykema to give CU the 18-14 edge.
- Olivia Sweeney recorded a service ace that tied set three at 21.
- The two teams then traded points and needed to go to extra time as Olivia Keelean finally put the set away for CU with a kill to win 27-25.
- Now that the Golden Eagles started to find their stride, they got on top early in set four with three kills from Rylie Walters.
- Olivia Keelean recorded a solo block that put CU on top 16-13.
- CU continued to control set four, increasing the lead all the way to five at 21-16.
- A 7-1 Madonna run helped them regain the lead and have match point at 24-23.
- Rylie Walters kept CU alive with a kill, but again after extra time, Madonna would come out on top this time as Olivia Keelean had an attack error that ended set four 28-26 and the match 3-1.
