SYLVANIA, Ohio – Four Golden Eagles scored in double digits as Cornerstone knocked off Lourdes 72-64.
Mackenzie Stien led the way with 19 points with
Maddison Fulks right behind her with 18. The third quarter was exceptional for CU as they dropped 31 points, hitting four threes and going 9-11 from the free throw line. This was the first WHAC win for the Golden Eagles this season, as they move to 3-9 overall, 1-6 in the WHAC.
Game Flow:
- Maddison Fulks got the scoring started with a jumper just seven seconds into the game.
- CU went on a 10-3 run to end the first quarter, capped by a Kennedy Helderop three, to take a 16-9 lead into the first break.
- After Lourdes pulled within four with 8:18 left in the second quarter, Mackenzie Stien got the Golden Eagles on the board again with a layup.
- Lourdes took the lead for the first time in the game after a three with 5:02 left to play in the half.
- The Gray Wolves took their largest lead of the afternoon, going up seven with 1:50 to play in the second quarter.
- With two seconds remaining in the half, Mackenzie Stien hit two free throws, but Lourdes took a 34-30 lead into the halftime break.
- Cornerstone went off in the third quarter, dropping 31 points to Lourdes 13. Stien got the second half scoring started with a layup.
- Maddison Fulks continued to make her presence known from the free throw line after cashing in on three free throws with 1:35 to play in the third quarter.
- After a Kaycee Sluiter jumper, CU took a 61-47 lead into the final break.
- Lourdes clawed their way back in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to three points, before Mackenzie Stien hit a layup to help quell the Gray Wolves momentum.
- Coach Yonkers has talked about finishing games, and that's exactly what the Golden Eagles did as Olivia Kubik hit two free throws to ice the game. CU took the victory 72-64.
