WYOMING, Mich. – Cornerstone could not find their shot in their first game after Christmas, falling 62-57 on the road at Grace Christian. The Golden Eagles trailed throughout, and were able to cut the deficit multiple times but never complete the comeback as they fall to 3-11 on the year. Cornerstone will have a chance at redemption against the 0-11 Davenport Panthers on Thursday, December 30 at 6 p.m.
Game Flow:
- After Grace got out to an early first quarter lead, Olivia Kubik hit a layup that tied the game at six.
- The Tigers responded with a 9-0 run that put them on top 15-6.
- Skylar Scholten hit a huge three that cut the deficit to four with 2:27 to play in the first quarter.
- Neither team scored in the final two minutes of the first quarter as Cornerstone trailed 20-13.
- Grace Christian went on an early 7-0 run in the second to increase their lead to as large as 12 at 27-15.
- Maddison Fulks scored five straight followed by two from Emma Costen that brought the GCU lead back to five at 27-22.
- The Tigers again found a response as Ashlyn Wilkes hit a layup to cap a 6-0 run to end the half and bring their lead back to 11 at 35-24.
- Cornerstone found some energy to start the third as Audrey Dreyer hit a jumper that cut the deficit to six.
- CU hung around the whole third quarter but could not gain any more ground as they trailed 45-37 after three.
- Emily Libey hit a bucket in the fourth that gave Grace their largest lead of the game at 14.
- Kennedy Helderop hit two threes to quickly cut the deficit back to eight at 51-43.
- The Golden Eagles started to use the full court press to create turnovers and Kennedy Helderop again hit a three to bring it within four with 2:29 to play.
- CU fouled in the final two minutes of play. Grace hit enough free throws to hold on and defeat Cornerstone 62-57.
