GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After 12 days without a match, the Golden Eagles returned to the court on Tuesday evening and welcomed a tough foe to Mol Arena in 10th-ranked Indiana Tech. The Warriors showed their dominance in the first two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-7 before finishing the match with a 28-26 victory in the decisive third set. The loss sets Cornerstone back to 0-7, 0-4 WHAC as they prepare to host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday evening inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap: Cornerstone 0 – #10 Indiana Tech 3 (25-11, 25-7, 28-26)
- After leading 10-6 midway through the first set, the Warriors broke it open with an 8-1 run to take an 18-7 advantage.
- The Golden Eagles committed four straight errors late in the first frame to set up set point for Indiana Tech, which they closed out with a kill at 25-11.
- Indiana Tech picked up where they left off in the second, opening the set with a 12-1 advantage.
- An 8-0 run for the Warriors – Seven points of which came from kills – extended the visitors' lead to 17 points before ultimately closing out the set 25-7.
- Cornerstone competed closely with Indiana Tech for the entirety of the third set.
- After taking a 10-7 lead, the Warriors handed the Golden Eagles a flurry of points by committing errors on six of the next seven points to give CU a 13-11 lead.
- Dellen Veldhouse recorded back-to-back service aces to make it 19-all.
- The Golden Eagles fought their way back and led 24-22, giving them two set point opportunities.
- Back-to-back kills from the Warriors forced extra points, where Indiana Tech ultimately prevailed 28-26.
By the Numbers:
49 – Indiana Tech recorded 49 kills in three sets, which is the most by an opponent this season other than Lourdes, who recorded 50 in four sets.
12 – The Golden Eagles recorded a season-low 12 assists.
5 – Five of the first seven opponents in program history have been against teams either ranked or receiving votes nationally.
17-6 – Indiana Tech committed 17 service errors while Cornerstone only committed six.
