GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their final home match until March 16, the Golden Eagles fell in straight sets 18-25, 12-25, 19-25 vs. WHAC foe Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Logan Chagdes led the way with a career high eight kills in the loss as Cornerstone is now 0-8, 0-5 WHAC on the year. CU returns to action tomorrow with a road match at a very tough number 14 Goshen College.
Game Recap – Mount Vernon – 3 Cornerstone - 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19)
- Cornerstone scored the first two points of the match on a pair of Spencer Stanley attacking errors to take an early lead.
- Mount Vernon went on a 10-2 run to follow forcing Cornerstone into their first timeout.
- The Cougars did not give up the lead the remainder of the first set winning 25-18. Logan Chagdes recorded a team high two kills in the first set for CU.
- A Mitchell Nichols kill and Max Hernandez service ace gave the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead in set two.
- MVNU once again saw a big run, scoring the next eight points to take a 10-3 lead and force Cornerstone into a timeout.
- Silvio Rodriguez came off the bench to give the Golden Eagles some energy, recording a pair of kills to cut the deficit to 13-7.
- A MVNU 8-0 run late into the set helped them to a quick 25-12 set two victory.
- Cornerstone once again got out to an early lead as a Logan Chagdes kill put CU up 3-1.
- Joshua Richline recorded his first kill of the season to spark a 3-0 run that tied set three at nine. Cade Meza tallied a pair of services aces as well in the run forcing MVNU into their first timeout.
- The two teams traded points as set three sat tied at 14 all.
- MVNU went on a 5-1 run after things were tied at 14 to take a 19-15 lead and force Cornerstone into a timeout.
- Cornerstone was only able to muster up four points in the final stretch of set three as they fell 25-19 and 3-0 in the match.
By the Numbers
7-4 – Cornerstone saw seven service aces in the match which is a program best while MVNU saw just four.
