Men’s Volleyball falls in straight sets at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich.  – The first season struggles continued for the Golden Eagles tonight falling 25-22, 25-10, 25-14 in straight sets at Siena Heights in the team's first ever meeting. Logan Chagdes had a team high eight kills in the match as the Golden Eagles fall to 0-10, 0-7 WHAC on the year. CU continues the teams longest road trip of the year at NAIA (4) Lourdes on Friday at 4 p.m. 
 
Game Recap – Siena Heights – 3 Cornerstone - 0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-14) 
  • The two teams traded points early in set one, as CU trailed 7-6 after a kill from David Kerkstra.
  • CU later went on a 3-1 run that saw a big block from Max Hernandez and Jacob Brinks to make the deficit one again at 11-10. 
  • SHU responded with a 6-2 run to go on top 17-12. Cornerstone would not go down lightly however, going on a 9-5 run that saw seven Siena Heights errors putting CU down just one, 22-21. 
  • A kill by Siena Heights Keegan Crawford ended set one, 25-22. 
  • Siena Heights scored the first five points of set two capped off by a kill from Bryce Johnson. 
  • Mitchell Nichols recorded a kill to make it 9-4, but SHU then went on another 5-0 run to bring their lead to 14-4. 
  • Cornerstone fell 25-10 in set two. 
  • CU went on a surge to start set three as Logan Chagdes recorded a pair of kills and Max Hernandez added a kill to lead 3-0. 
  • After set three was tied at 10, the Saints went on an 11-2 run to take control 21-12. The SHU attack was dominant spreading the ball around for five kills. 
  • Siena Heights scored the last four points of set three to win 25-14 and take the match in straight sets. 
 
By the Numbers 
8 – Logan Chagdes ties a career high with eight kills to lead CU on the night. 
6-0 – Siena Heights recorded six aces while the Golden Eagles had zero on the night. 
.375 – Mitchell Nichols hit a team high .375 with four kills on eight attempts. 
21/9 – Max Hernandez led the team with 21 assists and nine digs. 
 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone will join the women's team at Lourdes on Friday for a 4 p.m. match in Sylvania, Ohio.
