Men's Volleyball swept by 10th-ranked Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Cornerstone Men's Volleyball team continued its season on Friday night with another tough matchup against 10th-ranked Lourdes. The Gray Wolves won comfortably in straight sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-12) to hand the Golden Eagles their 11th straight loss. Cornerstone will have a week away from competition before a pair of matches against Lancaster College in Pennsylvania next week Friday, March 5. 

Game Recap: Lourdes 3 – Cornerstone 0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-12)
  • Cornerstone got off to a strong start, scoring the first three points of the match, including a service ace from Alex Hekman
  • Lourdes responded with a 12-4 run to take a 12-7 lead in the first set. Of the four points awarded to CU in that stretch, three were by way of Lourdes service errors. 
  • Cornerstone kept the game within reach, trailing only 19-13, but the Gray Wolves put the first set away by taking the last six points to win 25-13.
  • Cade Meza had a pair of kills early in the second set, but Lourdes jumped out to a 13-4 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles then found a little spark, earning six of the next nine points to make it 16-10 Lourdes. 
  • Cornerstone was only able to get one more point for the remainder of the second set as Lourdes prevailed 25-11. 
  • After Lourdes jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the third and final set, CU earned four straight points and eventually made it 15-10. 
  • The Gray Wolves capped off the set and the match by taking the last five points, winning the third set 25-12 and the match 3-0. 

By the numbers:
10 – Cornerstone had a season low 10 kills.
7 – Out of 11 matches this season, seven have been against teams ranked or receiving votes in the national poll.
6 – Alex Hekman had six digs.
3 – Cade Meza and Mitchell Nichols each had three kills.

What's Next? 
Cornerstone will have a week away from competition before a pair of matches against Lancaster College in Pennsylvania next week Friday, March 5. Matches are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
