GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles took a short trip down the road on Wednesday evening to take on their rivals from Aquinas. Cornerstone found themselves chasing the Saints the entire game before ultimately falling by a score of 74-67. The loss sets the Golden Eagles back to 4-9 overall, 1-4 WHAC as they begin preparations for Saturday afternoon's 1 p.m. game at Rochester.
Game Flow:
- Aquinas jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of action.
- A few minutes later, Cornerstone responded with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the Saints' lead to 11-9 just five minutes into action.
- Aquinas hit back-to-back three pointers to bring their lead back up to 17-9 with three minutes to play in the first quarter.
- Kennedy Helderop closed out the scoring in the first quarter with a three-pointer with 37 seconds on the clock. Aquinas led 23-16 after the first frame.
- A layup from Ellen Kresge with 2:55 to play in the second quarter cut AQ's lead to just 31-28, but the Saints bucketed a trio of three-pointers in the final couple minutes of the half to take a 42-31 lead at halftime.
- The Saints built their lead to as many as 15 in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles responded by ending the frame on a 9-0 scoring run to cut Aquinas' lead to 55-49.
- A pair of free throws from Allyson Richards with 8:14 to play brought Cornerstone to within four points of Aquinas, 57-53.
- Shelby Nyboer scored six points in the final two minutes of play but Aquinas ultimately held on for a 74-67 victory

Ellen Kresge with four.

Cornerstone (4-9, 1-4 WHAC) will have a couple days off from game action before hitting the road to take on Rochester on Saturday at 1 p.m.
