ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued a stretch of road WHAC games at Rochester and fell 99-72 in a game that saw 42 points at the free throw line on 66 attempts. Neither team could get much of an offensive rhythm with 49 fouls in the 40-minute contest. With the loss, Cornerstone is now 4-10, 1-5 WHAC. In the condensed COVID-19 rescheduled season, Cornerstone will see their longest break between games, as they return home to face Concordia on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Game Flow:
- Ellen Kresge hit her first three of the season to open the scoring for the Golden Eagles a minute into the game.
- The paint game, caused problems for the Golden Eagles as Rochester went on a 6-0 run to go on top 9-3.
- Cornerstone did not hit a two-point field goal until six and a half minutes in on a Shelby Nyboer layup.
- A late run for the Golden Eagles cut the deficit to six after one at 23-17.
- The two teams traded buckets for most of the second quarter. A pair of free throws increased the Rochester lead to as large as 13 with 2:59 remaining in the first half.
- A late layup by Katelyn Siebert brought the deficit back to single digits at the half, as CU trailed 49-40.
- An early third quarter three from Kennedy Helderop brought the Golden Eagles to within eight at 51-43.
- The inside game and free throw shooting of Rochester continued to keep the Golden Eagle at bay, as the Warriors outscored Cornerstone 29-16 in the third quarter to hold a 22-point lead, 78-56.
- Rochester opened the fourth quarter with a three from Mimi McNutt to take a 25-point advantage.
- Cornerstone was able to cut it back to 20 on a Layna Steele free throw, but that was as close as CU would get falling 99-72 on the road at Rochester.
