Judson downs Men’s Volleyball in straight sets

ELGIN, Ill.  – In the Golden Eagles second meeting with Judson, first on the road, CU fought tough but was unable to pull away at the end of a pair of sets resulting in a 3-0 loss. Cade Meza recorded a career high and program record 10 kills in the match as Cornerstone fell 25-18, 25-23, 25-23. The team now moves to 1-15 on the year as they will conclude a 10-game road trip at Maranatha Baptist with two games this Saturday at 3 and 5 p.m. 
 
Game Recap – Judson – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-23)
  • Neither team in set one could get out to bigger than a three-point edge, as Max Hernandez and Jacob Brinks recorded a big block to trail 14-12. 
  • Judson went on a 5-0 run to take the 19-12 edge.
  • David Kerkstra recorded a kill to get CU to 18, but they would fall in set one 25-18. Judson hit .324 in set one with 15 kills. 
  • Cornerstone and Judson traded side outs in set two until the score was tied 9-9. 
  • A pair of attack errors and a kill from Mitchell Nichols gave CU their largest lead of the second set, 18-15. 
  • JU responded to score five of the last seven points to steal set two from the Golden Eagles, 25-23. 
  • Cornerstone kept things close in set three as an attack error from Judson made it a one-point set at 12-11. 
  • Judson went on a 4-0 run to take a 16-11 edge. 
  • CU immediately responded with a 4-0 run of their own highlighted by a block from Mitchell Nichols and Cade Meza as well as a kill from Max Hernandez
  • Another Cornerstone 4-0 run that was capped off by a Cade Meza kill gave them the lead at 20-18. 
  • After the set was tied at 23, CU was just not able to close things out as Judson scored the final two points on a kill and a block to win set three 25-23 and win the match 3-0.

10 – Cornerstone recorded a first-year program best 10 blocks led by six from setter Max Hernandez
9 – Alex Heckman had a team high nine digs. 
10 – Cade Meza recorded a career high 10 kills. 
 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone concludes a 10-game road trip at Maranatha Baptist University this weekend with matches set for 3 p.m. & 5 p.m. EST.
