GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles were finally able to get the spring portion of their season underway with a home match vs. Rochester. Cornerstone is now 4-1-1 on the year as they will take on rival Aquinas on the road on Wednesday, March 17 with the time still yet to be determined.

The Highlights:
  • Cornerstone got off to a fast start recording most of the possession and recording five shots in the first 10 minutes plus with the best chance coming on a corner kick that Hannah Luurtsma had a chance in front of net.
  • Jozlyn Vantol found the net in the 12th minute off a great pass from Julie Gouilliart to give CU the first goal of the game.
  • Just three minutes later, Laura Helder scored in a similar situation as Julie Gouilliart made another great pass to make it 2-0 in favor of Cornerstone.
  • Cornerstone nearly found a third goal in the middle of the first half but an offsides call brought it back and kept it 2-0.
  • At the half, Cornerstone outshot Rochester 16-3.
  • Second half was a little more physical early, as Rochester was tagged with the first yellow card of the game in the 53rd minute.
  • In the 68th minute a cross from Erica Mich was headed in by a Rochester defender into their own net to make it 3-0.
  • Just over a minute later, Rochester fouled CU inside the box which allowed Kylie Adams to take a penalty kick which she nicely placed in the bottom corner to make it 4-0.
  • Cornerstone was able to play some bench players for the remainder of the contest earning the 4-0 win to open the spring.
