Kayla Clark highlighted a strong day for the Golden Eagles with a career milestone of 3,000 career assists after tallying 40 in a 3-0 win at Rochester. Cornerstone, after a bit of a slow start, showed their dominance winning 26-24, 25-9, 25-20 to improve to 14-2, 10-1 WHAC on the season. CU returns home for their biggest match of the season against rival and receiving votes Aquinas on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with WHAC Championship implications on the line.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – Rochester – (26-24, 25-9, 25-20)
- Neither team could get an early edge in set one as a CU service error tied things 12-12.
- Cornerstone then found a small run of 4-1 to go on top 16-13, highlighted by a pair of blocks from Olivia Keelean and Brooke Nicholson forcing Rochester into their first timeout.
- Rochester rebounded to tie the set at 19 with a. 3-0 run highlighted by a block from Olivia Pannecouk and Lauren Desjarden.
- Olivia Keelean was able to record a kill for CU that helped the Golden Eagles hold on and take set on 26-24.
- CU found their stride in set two, using an early 4-0 run to get on top 11-4. Olivia Keelean and Brooke Nicholson continued their strong offensive starts each recording a kill in the run.
- After leading 14-8, Cornerstone then erupted to the finish line with an 11-1 run to coast to a 25-9 set two victory. CU hit .500 in the set with 18 kills and just two errors as Olivia Keelean continued to dominate offensively with a season high 11 kills after just two sets played.
- Cornerstone stayed hot in set three, scoring five of the first six points with two kills from Brooke Nicholson and one from Jackie Stanko to go on top 5-1.
- Brooke Nicholson then brought out her defense with a solo block to give CU the 9-3 lead.
- Rochester stormed back with an 8-1 run of their own to take the lead 11-10.
- CU responded with an 8-2 run, taking command 18-13 with a block from Brooke Nicholson and Kayla Clark.
- RU fought back, but it was not enough as a pair of Warrior errors ended set three and the match in favor of Cornerstone 25-20.

Brooke Nicholson fell just short of multiple career highs with 14 kills, eight blocks, and a .550 hitting percentage.

Olivia Keelean tallied a career high 15 kills and hit .538 in the win.

Kayla Clark recorded 40 assists to surpass 3,000 career and also had 16 digs for a double-double.
30 –
Patsy Morris had a season high 30 digs in the win.
What's Next?
Cornerstone returns home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for their most important match this year vs. rival Aquinas who sits atop the WHAC with CU. The day will also serve as this year's Friendship Sports International BOGO Night where every pair of socks or shirt that is purchased will provide socks or a shirt to the homeless of Grand Rapids.
