GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone got off to a slow start that resulted in a 25-12, 25-18, 25-17 sweep vs. receiving votes Siena Heights on Friday evening. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 2-18, 0-10 WHAC on the year. CU will return to action tomorrow on the road as they take on another NAIA Top 25/RV opponent in number nine Indiana Tech at noon down in Fort Wayne.
Game Recap – Siena Heights – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-17)
- Cornerstone got off to a slow start after Cade Meza recorded an early kill, as the Saints went on a 9-0 run to go on top 10-1.
- The Saints continued to dominate, going on top 19-3 in set one.
- CU then scored three of the next four points, capped off by a Logan Chagdes kill before SHU went on to win 25-12.
- The Golden Eagles came out much stronger in set two, taking the early lead on a Max Hernandez kill.
- The Saints got out to a five-point edge, but a big block from Mitchell Nichols and David Kerkstra forced Siena Heights into a timeout at 16-14.
- Back-to-back service aces by Dellen Veldhouse brought the deficit to just one at 18-17, but Siena Heights responded to score seven of the last eight points to win 25-18.
- In set three, Cornerstone saw a huge early block from Logan Chagdes and Jacob Brinks to tie things at 3-3.
- The two teams then traded points as the set three score remained tied at 10-10.
- Siena Heights began to pull away, going on a 3-0 run with kills by three separate players to force the Golden Eagles into a timeout at 14-11.
- After the CU timeout, SHU scored five more straight to increase the edge to 19-11 before the sub Joshua Richline tallied a kill to stop the run.
- An attack error by Jacob Brinks ended the match with a 25-17 loss in set three for the Golden Eagles.
By the Numbers
.000 – Cornerstone had the same number of kills and errors in each set today to record a .000 hitting percentage overall.
.423 – Siena Heights hit above .350 in each set capped off by a .423 mark in set one with 13 kills and two errors.
