Last Week Recap
Cornerstone got back in the win column last week Wednesday when they hosted Rochester with a 2-1 full time victory over the Warriors to move to 4-3-1 on the year. CU scored just 36 seconds into the game before Rochester tied things in the 14th minute. CU later scored the game winner in the second half as
Nate Kaercher found the net for the second time to win 2-1. As it currently stands, CU is in fourth place in the WHAC at 4-2-1 overall.
WHAC Offensive Player of the Week
After scoring two goals, freshman forward
Nate Kaercher was named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week last week. Kaercher now leads the team with three goals this season and is the only player to find the net multiple times this year.
Shutouts
CU has played eight games this season and recorded a shutout in half of those behind the strength of
Alan Roman in net for the Golden Eagles. Roman has played every minute at keeper and has made 41 saves for an 80.4 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas
The Saints have split their last four matches, winning against Cleary and Lawrence Tech, but falling to nationally ranked Indiana Tech and UNOH to sit at 5-2-0, 4-2-0 WHAC. Wednesday's game is a big one as AQ is just a half game back from CU in the conference standings. Just like Cornerstone, Aquinas has recorded four shutouts this season behind keeper Antonio Strassioto who has played every minute in net and tallied 21 saves. Offensively, Theo Maye is tied for the team lead in goals and assists with four goals and three assists for a team high 11 points. Teammate Steffano Riley has also recorded four goals as the two have combined for eight of the teams 15 this season. Last season, Aquinas was just 5-8-6 overall but they are much improved behind many new faces in 2020-21.
Scouting Indiana Tech
The number 12 Warriors have played a WHAC high 12 games and have yet to lose, winning their first 11 before a 1-1 two overtime tie with Lourdes last time out for a record of 11-0-1, 7-0-1 this season. Indiana Tech is powered by the exceptional play of sophomore Noe Garcia who has tallied a WHAC leading 13 goals to go along with six assists for another WHAC high of 32 points. Senior Maxwell Amoako leads the WHAC in assists from his midfield position with nine to go along with five goals for 15 points. Defensively, the Warriors have yet to be challenged recording an NAIA best eight shutouts with both their keepers with a save percentage over 90.0 this season.
